ASSOCIATION OF LOCAL AUTHORITY MEDICAL ADVISORS |
|
About A.L.A.M.AALAMA is a professional association for medical practitioners who are practising, or have an interest, in Local Authority, Police and Fire Service occupational health. It is a lively association of about 300 members, which provides an opportunity to meet colleagues in this field. It is also an educational forum for discussion of day-to-day clinical practice and Regulatory issues. ALAMA has a sound academic base, and holds two large-scale conferences a year, in Spring and Autumn. The Spring conference covers matters of interest to all, whilst the Autumn one specialises in Fire and Police practice. Excellent speakers are engaged, and the conferences are as friendly as they are informative. ALAMA speaks for the profession and is regularly involved in consultation with official bodies. A newsletter is produced regularly, keeping members fully informed of all major developments, including feedback from the conferences. The ALAMA website provides a high quality forum for discussion, as well as contacts, links and resources. Local government medical advisers work mostly in isolation and the website has a particularly valuable role in the support that ALAMA gives to its members.
